West Coast Paper Mills Ltd:-This Ain't No Paper Tiger

Scripscan:West Coast Paper Mills Ltd
Traded in:Nse-bse

Story:The company manufactures various kinds of printing & writing paper and paperboard. It also has a division that manufactures optical fibre cable, which contributes less than 10% to its revenues. The company has chalked out an expansion and modernisation plan involving an increase in production capacity and upgradation of technology. WCPM plans to increase its output capacity from 1.8 lakh tpa to 3.2 lakh tpa with a total investment of Rs 1,100 crore.Plant modernisation is also underway and the company has placed orders for new machines. Its capex plan is expected to be completed by mid-''09 and its full impact will be visible in its FY11financials.Post-expansion, the company''s net sales are expected to grow to Rs 1,100 crore in FY10. A larger capacity, coupled with modernisation, is also likely to increase the operating margin of its paper division to nearly 36% of net sales from 22-24% currently. Given the rise in demand for newsprint and increased government impetus to primary education, the demand for paper in the country is expected to increase steadily. The per-capita consumption of paper is likely to increase from 7 kg to 10 kg by ''10. Growing literacy is boosting demand for paper.Closure of paper mills in North America and Europe has also improved the prospects for domestic paper mills.A bullish industry outlook, lower valuations and aggressive capex make the company an attractive bet.A good solid buy.
