What capex foretells:-

Capacity expansion is good indicator of a company's future outlook about its business. A lot of valuable information relating to future plans and capacity expansion are available in the notes to accounts.The notes are also good sources of information on projects that have recently gone on stream. A few companies have spoken about business strategies in the notes.This apart, information shared includes signing of technical collaboration agreement, product diversification, trial production, tentative launch dates for new products, investment outlay approved by board, targeted expansion in capacity, investment in subsidiaries to widen geographical reach and so on.

1)Prakash Industries:-Taken up expansion of its existing power generation by 625 MW. Implementation is being done at a fast pace.

2)Maharashtra Seamless:-Project implementation work for imported seamless plant with a capacity of 2,00,000 tonnes located at Vile-Bhagad Industrial Area, Near Mangaon, 35 kilometers away from the existing Nagothane site in Maharashtra, is going on as per schedule.

3)Biopac India Corporation:-Increased installed capacity by 50% in December 2009 and reported a 34% jump in sales in the nine months ended December 2009.

4)Asahi Fibres:-Implementing an expansion project under the Technology Upgradation Fund. As partial production has commenced, turnover as well as profit before interest and depreciation rose in the December 2009 quarter.

5)Trent:-Two Westside stores opened, taking the total number of Westside stores to 42 and the total number of stores under various formats (Westside, Sisley and Fashion Yatra) to 51.

6)Usher Agro:-Allotted 60 lakh warrants that are convertible into one equity shares with face value of Rs 10 each per warrant to promoter companies and other investors on a preferential basis at a price of Rs 41 per warrant. Funds would be used to part finance rice milling capacity expansion project of 3,00,000 lakh tonnes per ounce at Chhata, district Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Other objectives include acquiring strategic equity stake in entities carrying on same or similar activities, business related to value addition to by products.

7)Nandan Exim:-In process of increasing its denim capacity from 30 million meters to 40 million meters.

8)KEI Industries:-Entered into a foreign technical collaboration agreement with Brugg Kabel AG, Switzerland, to manufacture extra high voltage cables ranging from 66kV-220kV at its manufacturing facilities located at Bhiwadi and Chopanki, district Alwar, Rajasthan.

9)Andhra Petrochemicals:-Incurred loss in the December 2009 quarter due to shutdown of the plant from 11 November 2009 onwards in connection with modernisation and integration with expansion, which is nearing completion.

10)Abhishek Industries:-Completed expansion of the terry towel division by installing 24 looms and upgrading 18 looms. Post completion, the manufacturing capacity of the terry towel division increased to 374 looms. Commercial production on new facilities started from 2 January 2010.

11)XPRO India:-Capacity of synthetic resins at the thermosets division was enhanced in the December 2009 quarter. At the coex division, capacity additions under implementation for coextruded sheets and thermoforming.

12)Orient Paper & Industries:-New cement mill at its cement unit at Jalgoan in Maharashtra and a 25-MW captive power plant at the cement unit at Devapur in Andhra Pradesh commissioned in the December 2009 quarter.

13)Black Rose Industries:-Wind power project with a capacity of 0.8 MW (Tiwri, district Jodhpur, Rajasthan) commissioned and commercially connected to the grid on 10 January 2010.

14)Banswara Syntex:-Taken up expansion-cum-modernisation of its production capacities. Further, diversified into technical textile fabrics. Also, installed the second unit of thermal power plant of 15-18-MW capacity. Total estimated capital expenditure outlay estimated to be Rs 110 crore.

15)Ankur Drugs & Pharma: Commenced production at injectable section in the Baddi facility in Himachal Pradesh and has already approached by its existing partners, thereby targeting good capacity utilisation of facilities.Through with all pre-requisites to manufacture fentanyl patch. Trial production runs are commencing, enabling the launch of the product in May or June 2010.Repaid film trial runs successfully done at the Baddi plant in Himachal Pradesh. Stability data of the first product (Ondarseron oral strips) satisfactory. The product will be made available in the market in April-May 2010. Co-marketing opportunities for the product with companies of international repute also at a very progressive stage.Other two products (Donepezil and Otanzepine) in active state of technology transfer, and expected to be completed shortly.Manufacture of decogestant vapour patch successfully commenced, and marketing strategies and distribution network being geared up for a successful launch in the last quarter of 2009-10.
