Story:Walchandnagar Industries Limited operates as a diversified heavy engineering project execution company in India and internationally.It offers boilers for the energy sector; and combustion chambers, missile casings, air booster casings, static and mobile launchers, karthik/cease bridges, and containers for defense applications.The company also provides flight motor casings and nozzles, domes for motor casings, pressure test end closures, handling rings, contour nozzles, heat shield jigs, and nose caps for the aerospace sector; air-cooled thermal vessels, dump tanks, end shield rings, fuelling machine carriage, calandrias, fuel magazines, moderator heat exchangers, reactor building structures, sodium pumps, process vessels, core catcher, and support tanks for nuclear power projects; and ball mills, vertical roller mills, and cyclones, pre-calciner, kilns, and coolers for cement projects. In addition, it undertakes captive and independent power projects; and EPC projects for mineral processing and bulk material handling for heavy process industry. Further, it offers LPG bullets, horton spheres, water quench columns, buffer vessels, drums, refrigerant storage drums, purge tanks, heat exchangers, purge tanks, draft tubes, spiral casings, and air receivers for petrochemical/fertilizer/process industries; and equipment for oil and gas sector. Additionally, the company provides opencast mining and bulk materials handling, size reduction equipment, conveyors, stamler feeder breakers, and coal washery for mining and bulk sectors; and gear boxes for marine propulsion system, turbo alternator and gas compressors, sugar mills, cement mills, wind turbines, centrifuges, tube rolling mills, hydel power projects, and special applications.In addition, it offers machinery for sugar projects; centrifugal machines; gray iron and ductile iron castings; pressure and temperature gauges; and information technology services.The company recently announced plans to form a JV with Russia's Atomenergomash and Atomstroyexport for manufacture and supply of components for nuclear power projects.The MoU has been signed and it is currently working out the contours of the JV.The company has been around for the past over 100 years. For the second quarter ended 31st March 2011, the company posted a very good set of numbers, promising a much better year. Net sales rose YoY by a whopping 141% at Rs.287 crore and net profit surged over 171% at Rs.5 crore. But its profit margins are pretty low, NPM was at less than 2%.Cyclically second quarter has always been low with third quarter being its best.India plans to source 70% of its defence requirement from indigenous sources by the end of this year and with Walchand having made this niche for itself, is poised for some good times ahead.
